The Best Leadership Book

November 25, 2019 By Rob Hackbarth Leave a Comment

“Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” Peter F. Drucker, Ph.D

The most powerful leadership book you will ever read is the one that helps you to become a much better person.

Leadership is all about positive influence. All of us are willing to be influenced by individuals who are very good persons.

Many leadership books identify the kind of elements that make for great leaders. Integrity, vision, excellent communication, passion and putting others first are just a few of the descriptions of excellent leadership.  Each of these elements are part of being a better person. And a person striving to be their best is what we respect and look for in leaders.

Literally, thousands of leadership books have been written. And many of them are worth reading. But, the best ones are not listed as books on leadership. They are about becoming a better person.

A few examples of good books that have influenced me are:

  • The Road Less Traveled by Scott Peck
  • Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl
  • Walden by Henry David Thoreau
  • Mindset by Carol Dweck
  • Books by Andy Andrews
  • Books by Norman Vincent Peale
  • Books by Zig Ziglar
  • The Bible

There are more books about how to be a better person than anyone will ever be able to read in a lifetime. How many have you read? When is the last time you read a book that challenged you to become a better person?

Whom do you currently follow? What is good about that person that makes them an impactful leader?

Who is willing to follow you? What good qualities do you possess that inspire others to follow you?

In the last year, how have I become a better person? How is that helping me to influence those that I most want to influence?
